I recently got a continuous glucose monitor and its been incredibly informative. The first thing I learned was my contour next meter was way off. My readings on the CGM were 15-20 points higher than my meter and what I expected. I went to the store and bought a different brand meter, and found it agreed to within 2 points of the CGM in multiple readings (so after I stop using the CGM I will use the new meter). The second thing I discovered was the impact of statins on blood sugar. I have been taking red yeast rice (natural statin) to control my cholesterol level. Long story short, according to the CGM it was keeping my blood sugar 100-110 mg/dl no matter what i ate or didn’t eat. Long story short after I figured it out and dropped the red yeast rice, my average glucose dropped from 108 to 93. Now it seldom goes above 100 mg/dl.

It’s been one year since I went low carb. I can honestly say at this point I don’t miss sugar, bread, potatoes, pasta or rice. I did miss beans but have found that edamame doesn’t spike me much at all. Thank you as always Mr. Dennis!

Thanks, Dennis, for the following food suggestions in our efforts to Beat Diabetes. I really appreciate the specifics! Shopping simplified 🌟 1. Meat and low carb veggies are a huge part in Beating Diabetes 🌟 2. Peanut Butter is low on the glycemic scale 🌟 3. Low carb vegetables work: green beans, cauliflower, broccoli 🌟 4. Bread and grains are a no-no…Keto breads are available, but not all that glitters is gold…Dennis recommends eating 1 slice of bread at a time, not 2 🌟 5. Keto cereals are a no-no unless used sparingly 🌟 6. Leave bagels alone 🌟 7. Mustard is a YES: has no sugar…Hunts tomato sauce is very low carb 🌟 8. Green beans, again, is a definite thumbs up 🌟 9. Mac and cheese is another no-no 🌟 10. Tortillas are not your friend, but, certain taco shells will not spike too much 🌟 11. Rice: no-no 🌟 12. Beans may work in limited amounts 🌟
