I tried the 5 day modified fast. Surprisingly easy.
I’m sharing my personal experience with the fasting mimicking diet (FMD). I’ll break down how it works, the science behind it, and whether it’s worth trying.
I’ve been talking about fasting since 2014, but one of the few researchers exploring
fasting at the time was Dr. Longo in California. He discovered that fasting triggers
beneficial repair processes in the body, but fasting for five days can be tough. That’s
where the fasting mimicking diet comes in — it allows you to eat small amounts of
specially designed foods while still keeping your body in a fasting state.
What You’ll Learn in This Video:
✅ How the fasting mimicking diet works and the science behind it
✅ Why lowering nutrient sensors like insulin and mTOR matters for health
✅ Health benefits shown in studies on weight loss, diabetes, cancer, and more
✅ My personal experience – what worked, what didn’t, and how it felt
✅ Pros: Structured, easier than water fasting, good taste, and convenient
✅ Cons: It's pricey, but it replaces five days of meals
I’ve done water fasts before, and they’re not easy — especially on days 3 and 4. But
the FMD made it much more manageable since you’re still eating a bit of food. Plus,
it’s less stressful and more socially convenient when eating with family.
I’ll also walk you through exactly what’s included in the FMD kit — from soups and
bars to teas and vitamins — and share my thoughts on the taste and overall
experience.
If you’re curious about fasting or looking for an easier way to experience the benefits
of fasting, this video is for you!

Thanks for all you do
Oh my. I just started my 7 days fast. 😊
👍 nice
Started a 5 day one too. Go us!
Hey, let’s get a new microphone!
I am so greatful to you for your divine guidance 🙏 Love you from India 🇮🇳
Hi Dr Fung – is this recommended for older adults? I’m 66.
That’s so much money. Carnivore will give the same benefits in my opinion do you think?
Carnivore is the fasting mimicking diet.
Don’t pay all this money when the answer is just don’t eat carbohydrates.
And you are correct 100%
Cost is definitely a downside
It is! Just eat meat only. No carbohydrates. Thats a fasting mimicking diet.
@@louisacapell And where would your fiber come from? Our gut bacteria NEEDS fiber to thrive. Meat contains ZERO fiber. Very dangerous.
Dr. Jason Fung, I’ll stick to your Intermittent Fasting instead. Lost gradually in a healthy pace 98 pounds in two years, which also included a Silver Sneakers exercise class 4 days a week. My lab results at my annual physical were significantly improved. Plus, once started, your intermittent fasting is easy to commit to and stick to. Thank you Dr. Fung.
Same
That’s amazing well done!!!
Another great video Dr Fung. Thanks!
I don’t think 🤔 this is Fasting. Fasting is having no food 🚫 it’s basically just another “diet” for those who cannot do a real fast 🙄🐶 I’m sure this will not reset one’s
Mitochondria as a real fast would.
The research proves otherwise. This was designed so that your body remains in a fasted state. That’s the whole point of it. Again, not as good as water only, but biologically, your body is fasting on this diet.
Is there a video about FMD? I don’t even know what it is and it’s not addressed in depth here.
Described quite well in this video…
Thank you Dr. Fung for your investment in people.
With extended fasts – have done 10 days in past – find the lack of things to do like chew was one of the things which made it hard for first few days. After day 5 one doesn’t think much about food although I find activities can be hard – even as basic as walking up stairs etc. Fasting does work – as a Type 2 diabetic even doing OMAD and reducing carbs has had a beneficial impact on my blood sugar so that it’s now not far off the normal range
I might do an extended fast when I have time off work/gym but couldn’t do that if I was doing my normal routine. Like you said though OMAD or 20:4 + low carb diet is pretty easy to stick to regularly.
I appreciate your work. Bought your book.
This is interesting, but not my scene. For me, commitment is like spiritual weight-lifting. In or out. Do it or don’t do it, but don’t do it half way. So I fast or I don’t fast. I find that simpler is easier. And cheaper, too. 😉
Can a ckd patient do 2days only water fasting
Healthy.
Yu know,……sometimes i just dont feel like eating anything at all til the next day.
I actually get tired of eating food sometimes during the week. 😅
I do the Prolon Fast once a year, in the spring. I love it and think it is super beneficial for people who feel like they just wouldn’t be able to do a five day water fast. Plus, I don’t have to worry about getting minerals and electrolytes. I’d recommend it. But of course, water only would be better.
But, man, i tell yu, after it gets to 8 o’clock at night the next night from only breakfast the day before, good healthy food gets REALLY good again. 😁
Yay! You got your channel back!
Thank you Dr Fung.
