    2. I remember being in hospital a couple of years ago. I was on the ward for Anorexics etc. I was there because of internal bleeding caused by stopping using inulin too fast about 4 weeks into a ‘water only’ + supplements (NADH, Mangnesium L threonate, Ubiquone (CoQ10), B1, B12, Zinc, D3, 3:1 Sodium/Potassium Chloride etc) i wasn’t take Omega 3 or Ceratine.
      And my gut bacteria ate my stomach wall.

      I found out a number of things.

      That my doctors (at an extremely prestigous teaching hospital) were utter idiots & didn’t know the difference between fasting & starving!

      For those of you reading this who don’t know the difference

      Animals such as us can cope with going without food for months. If a human goes without food, for about the first 2 weeks we enter a state called autophagy (look it up), after that we steadily lose fat over time. Until we run out of fat in the places we normaly store it.

      After that we start to starve and the body takes fat from wherever it can – inside of your bones, your brain, your face, etc

      When we run out all avaible fat we then start burning muscles as this the last desperate attempt to stay alive before death.

      My idiot doctors thought fasting would cause me to lose Muscles????
      I have enough fat to not enter starvation for about 9 months!

      They also thought that I needed to worried about Re-Feeding syndrome, so they wouldn’t let me leave hospital until I was back on a ‘Nice, Safe, High Carbohydrate Diet’
      You know the very thing that ’causes Re-Feeding Syndrome?!!

      They kept telling me that I would be repeatedly coming back, because my internal bleeding would keep happening. It hasn’t!

      None of them had ever even tried fasting????

      Frankly I wouldn’t be suprised if they didn’t understand about how our brains work. That when someone with Anorexia looks on a mirror they might well see a fat person, because our brains lie to us. They show us a picture from our memories not the current data. Especially if we are lacking energy.

      Nor did my doctors understand that whilst starvation makes you slow down due to lack of energy. Fasting gives you more energy! To help you go out and find some food and kill it!!

      So they sent me a Dietician who was saying that I would do better if I wasn’t so extreme. That I should try cutting down what ate & ate less calories….
      So I thanked her and said what said was such a huge example of her belief in me. That I alone could achieve something that Billions of people had tried and failed to have any effect wbatsoever

      She was rather non-plused by that answer!!

    2. He may well be an ‘MD’ but it doesn’t mean he has any great knowledge when it comes to diet/nutrition. He probably had 1 lecture at university on this at most!🙈

The people who looks down on him bcause of the backlash is just too ignorant . I watched his videos 15 years ago. Its pretty much the same thing he’s been repeating today.

      He’s been curing patients with diabetes long ago.

  2. As a young woman I was on a very low calorie medically supervised diet. 500 calories per day. I started gaining weight so I cut one of the bars out.. down to 400 calories per day. Still gaining weight I cut another bar and another bar until I was eating one 100 calorie bar a day, small bites throughout the day. I was still gaining weight. I asked the MD and she shook her finger in my face and said I was cheating somewhere and I should just admit it. I walked out at the appointment and never went back. But it did start my search for the truth, because I knew calories and calories out was not the issue.
    This was in the mid 1980s.

    3. This likely goes back to the 40s or 50s. Back in the day my mom told me of a some kind of cousin or aunt she had who was massively fat. Her doctor ended up putting her in the hospital for testing and they put her on a 250 caloric diet for some time and she still gained weight. After many weeks they finally found out that she had a serious Thyroid issue and Bingo.

    4. Things that never happened for $600, Alex. There is no way in hell you put weight on with 500 calories per day. Unless you are 25 pounds in weight

  3. When it comes to losing subcutaneous belly fat, I’m facing a mathematical riddle. I went from 123 kg down to 65 kg (at 181 cm tall), and now I’m around 73 kg. I’ve cut my daily protein intake by 30 grams and focused on resistance training and cycling.

    1. Some fat is needed for the body so that the body does not feel insecured. You present body weight is below expected body weight I.e., 81 kg.

I started reading it the day I got it and didn’t put it down until I finished sometime during the night and dove right in the next day with low carb high fat and Im still alive! I also weigh about 130 lbs less than I did then. It’s been quite a journey! There have been a lot of plateaus. But I’ve never given up. Yes it’s been 9 years and I’ve still got about 50 lbs to lose. But I’m determined to get there! You deserve a Nobel prize and every accolade there ever was!

  7. If you’re overweight and want to lose it and feel better overall, do what Dr. Fung suggests. It will work. If nothing else, at least give it a try for a bit.

  8. Another excellent video Dr. Fung! This is so very true. I am a post menopausal woman and started to entirely cut out highly processed foods about half a year ago while at the same time starting intermittent fasting. I have zero cravings left for those processed junk foods, I don’t sink in a hole after my meals, my brain is clear, I am energetic now. I did not need to lose much weight, but simply started for my health. Just feeling great!
