I know it’s weird, but I miss the times when you are demonstrating stuff like this with Mike the Meter. 😂

5 weeks ago, I spent 2 days in the hospital following a dka event. I was diagnosed with diabetes. A1C was 11.6.

Discharged from the hospital, with average glucose around 230. Took the prescribed insulin for 2-3 days. After research, decided high insulin was the problem. Stopped taking it. Limited carbs to less than 20 grams per day. Started intermittent fasting with 2 forty hour fasts per week.

After 5 weeks, my average glucose is around 100.

    • Noredia Israel Ighodaro says:

Amazing work sir, brother, sis, ma’am 🤌🏻. I was diagnosed with T2D jully 18 this yr 2023, with HBA1C of 10, and fasting blood sugars between 240-250. Firstly i lost the weight. Used to weigh 100kg at 5.7ft, dropped to 91kg in 2 months with fasting and exercising 5x a week. I now have a normal fasting BS lvs, between 89-97mg/dl, and don’t restrict diet. Can eat white rice now bcus I’ve built up my CARB TOLERANCE, but pair it Vegies and some proteins/fats, and i feel great. I’ve not gone for a retest to check HBA1C lvs, will do that this month. But I’m almost certain I’ve reversed my T2D, bcus life feels normal RN.

    • P Lowe says:

@Noredia Israel Ighodaro All refined sugar, refined grains (including white rice), and vegetable/seed oils should be avoided.

  • Zena Negash says:

Greetings from Ethiopia. That was really helpful. Thank you, Dennis.

The food list sounds like a good idea. I was doing good but lately “Mike” has been way to high. Maybe this can help. I just cringe in the morning when I look at it. Last night it was higher than ever before 😮😮. I get discouraged.

  • Noredia Israel Ighodaro says:

Love u Sir ❤️. U can reverse T2D with any diet, as long you’re in caloric deficit & lose at least 10% of ur weight, while exercising to improve insulin sensitivity. But not all diets are good like carnivore, vegan, paleo etc. Bcus these are too restrictive, and will make u lacking in 1 or 2 nutrients & minerals. Best diet is the Mediterranean diet.

Also, high carb (good carbs) with maybe little simple carbs, is better than high fat or high protein diets for T2D. Why? Some ppl plateau with high fats/protein diets and, BS lvs start to rise later on in life after eating. It also puts u at risk for heart disease, kidney damage, cancers, and constipation, and doesn’t treat the real issue, which is CARBOHYDRATE INTOLERANCE.

When u exercise, lose weight, pair ur foods with veggies, fats, proteins & maybe some simple carbs, you’ll see and notice ur CARBOHYDRATE TOLERANCE increase DRAMATICALLY. You’ll be at a normal HBA1C overtime, healthy, be at a normal weight, and can respond to INSULIN by 110% when u eat high carbs, even simple carbs. Which means u can eat ur healthy starchy veggies without any probs. I’m not saying u won’t have BS spikes when u eat them, but your body will respond to it like a normal healthy individual will, and you’ll be back to normal in 1-2 hrs.

Note; BS spikes when you’re healthy ain’t bad, as long as they’re timed and u give ur body time to rest from them, at least 4hrs period, then you’re good.

    • Carl King says:

I think you need to do more research.

    • Patricia Johnson says:

      You’re very misguided.

    • Noredia Israel Ighodaro says:

@Carl King Apparently I’m correct. I’m talking abt research, and even the latest research for that matter. In Fact, once ppl lose weight (10% of bodyweight), they reverse their T2D. Why? Bcus excess body fat causes INSULIN RESISTANCE. So by dropping the weight, u bcom more INSULIN SENSITIVE and reverse T2D. And how do u do that? By exercising and being in a caloric deficit. Ppl can even lose weight and reverse T2D by just eating ice-creams and sweets. But that doesn’t mean it’s the right way.

Also, Eating high fats/protein diets only runs from the underlying problem, which is CARB INTOLERANCE! Which is as a result of the cells being full of fat, which makes u insulin resistant, or bcus of ur genetics. But this can be improved by doing exercises, focusing on building muscles. Bcus this doesn’t just only increase INSULIN SENSITIVITY by 110%, but increase metabolism too. And muscles love sugars, and will soak it up like a sponge to make it fuller. Which means u can consume more carbs and be fine, bcus they’re energy stores for ur muscles.

In the process of reversing T2D, u need to introduce carbs so ur body learns to process it again. Also, high protein/fats diet like keto/carnivore diet, comes with lots of health complications. E.g like heart disease, CKD, cancers (meats are carcinogenic), and especially constipation. Vegan diet is good if u supplement ur amino’s and Omega 3’s. But the best all round diet which has proven time and time again to be the best for longevity, and is the most optimal diet, is the MEDITERRANEAN diet. Ppl don’t talk enough of it bcus they can’t sell u supplements if you’re on this diet.

I’m not only speaking from scientific research alone, but was once a T2D with HBA1C of 10.1, and a fasting BS of 240-250mg/dl.

I noticed you said about testing one hour after you eat. Has that changed from two hours after you eat

  • M Ball says:

Let’s say you have a low a1c but your diet is giving you a high CRP…. You seem to be focused on only one thing.

    • Derek Wroblewski says:

Good morning, @mballer…. He could do blood work to determine that. Lower CRP is going to come from the having lower blood sugar since it’s a marker of overall systemic inflammation. However, good luck trying to get a Doctor to do a CRP-test. My WB count was low but my doctor refused to do a test, But once I eliminated refined sugars and cut down carbs my WBC shot right back up to above the baseline. What works for someone may also not work for another but everyone can benefit form lowering blood sugar. There a slew of metabolic diseases associated with consistent states of hyperglycemia…. Cancer and Diabetes being just a few….

    • LE says:

Foods to avoid if you have high CRP are junk food, trans fats, fast food, fried foods, sugary beverages, and refined carbohydrates. A healthy low carb diet would address both A1c and CRP. Also, high CRP can be influenced by conditions such as diabetes, so it’s all related.😊

    • M Ball says:

      @LE
      Not necessarily.

    • M Ball says:

      @Derek Wroblewski
I have found it very easy to get a CRP test done.

    • LE says:

@M Ball can you provide a bit more detail as to why “not necessarily”?

  • GIG Fertility and Nutrition says:

    God bless you Dennis.

I have noticed that I can eat exactly the same meal . Meal has a total of 18 carbs net carbs 10. I can have as much as a 20 point difference checking my sugar. Any idea what is wrong?

    • Jesse B says:

The FDA implemented an accuracy study guideline in 2016 that all new meters must pass before approval. The tighter tolerance implemented is +/-20% for 99% of the readings.

In other words, your meter can be off by 20%. My meter shows average bs of 105. My A1C shows an average of 136.

  • Lisa Mikesell says:

Thank you once again. I used to listened all the time and really had great results. I think I got a bit rebellious about it and paid the price. My husband said that I really should go back to this way of eating, then I opened my phone up and your YouTube popped up! I believe that was God affirming what my husband said.😆
    I’m ready ☺️
