Foods that Deceive Diabetics by Late Glucose Spikes

Not all foods create the glucose spikes at the same time. Dennis Pollock, of Beat Diabetes, shares foods that spike later and often longer than other foods.

I am in a dilemma. I have been using the Stello and the lingo. When I test with my Mike the meter my blood glucose is much lower than the Stello says. Sometimes like 40 points. is the meter more accurate then the Stelo or lingo?

  • @NickeyFudge says:

what does your meter need to read if you want to be at 5.6

  • @zenmachine50 says:

I just had baked cauliflower, eggplant and Brussel sprouts, boiled beans and zucchini and piece of fish… high in carbs?

    • @zenmachine50 says:

Oh well here is your answer …. 7.7😢 … might have been other carbs I ate during the day.

  • @carlking8530 says:

I have found that certain Chinese foods don’t spike my sugar to levels that I’m not comfortable with. I stay away from the rice and noodles and eat the veggies and meat’s. Its a weekly treat for me. I have the same results with certain Mexican foods, I stay away from the rice and beans and tortillas. I’ve been low carb for about 5 years now, I’ve been experimenting to see what foods I can add back into my diet . Works for me.

  • @Justme85857 says:

    Excellent information

  • @mattg8415 says:

learned something valuable today many thanks

Dennis thank you for helping us all with your insights. Your advice has helped me more than you know! I make a meat rich chili every week that is my go to. Very gentle and predictable results on the CGM.

  • @lisaweppler1669 says:

Do you use a CGM?? What do you think of them if you do? thanks

    • @KuraiShidosha says:

I don’t believe he does which is a shame because it’s dramatically better for monitoring how your body responds to certain foods and even exercise. Instead of taking one or two data points at say 1 and 2 hour post prandial, you’re getting data every 5 minutes for multiple days. The very topic of this video how some meals will take longer to spike even 3 or 4 hours later is the perfectly example of why a CGM is vastly superior to finger prick tests because if you only test at the 1 or 2 hour mark, you’re oblivious to what’s really happening to you. That to me is critical information that would and should change your eating habits.

  • @jeanmoff says:

I have diabetes type 2 and just started taking milk thistle it is works but not sure why. I know longer have high blood sugar in the morning nothing else made a difference.

  • @sandraalston7863 says:

Great advice on the delayed spikes Dennis! A CGM is invaluable for this purpose….

Be wise when you test! Different foods can cause spikes at different times. A profound tip. Thanks, Dennis!

Hello Dennis. Thank you for all your helpful information. My A1C finally spiked up to 10. My endocrinologist wanted to start me on a very old medication called actos. I always worry about side effects he didn’t want to start me on insulin as of yet because he was trying to teach me how this medication works on the pancreas he seemed very knowledgeable and truly want to help me encouraged I try to exercise even though I have balance issues as much as I can and really watch my carb intake has anyone ever taken this medication had success? What are your thoughts about this medication Dennis? I know years ago there was a class action lawsuit for bladder cancer and heart failure don’t you just love all the meds but I feel as though at this point I have to do something because I’m failing on my own thanks for taking the time to reading my question

  • @ahmadmasood8654 says:

Brown rice is one of them.

  • @emh8861 says:

I noticed that. My blood sugar won’t go too high, but then in the morning my fasting sugar won’t be good.

  • @hussamsafyudeen3563 says:

    thanks from Egypt.

  • @petercyr3508 says:

A long high spike happens when glucagon does not drop after eating glucose (carbs). The liver keeps making glucose you dont need as a result. This is the hallmark sign of type 2 diabetes. Glucagon and glucose production is supposed to almost stop after a carb meal. When you have diabetes your only choice is to eliminate carbs.

Finally had our doctor set us up with a dietitian, very helpful information. Yes, we had to ask it’s been a struggle.

  • @bezoar21 says:

    Thanks for this video!

  • @kinpatu says:

Doctors not giving advice on nutrition is probably for the best, unless you want to be as overweight as they are.

  • @joyfulhope4474 says:

Oh how accurate that lady’s story is that you told at the beginning. I have been to 3 different doctors and 1 PA and not one, not one single one said anything about diet, what to do, not do – one said Jardiance, another said metformin, another said ozempic, and the PA decided on Metformin and Jardiance. Also told me I could eat potatoes and BBQ deli meat and she takes diabetes classes! All immediately went to drugs as the solution with not one mention of alternative options, diet, checking bc or even how to. Also, one of these doctors became offended when I tried to express concerns about the side effects of ozempic in particular; he said I was in denial and if I went to endocrinologist, they would not even discuss it with me…
insisting on ordering ozempic which he promptly did while I had not agreed to it!!!
He was done with me but what he did not know, is I was done with him! I knew then (the Lord) and my gut was steering me in the right direction which was time to leave these doctors and do my own research. Thank you beyond measure Pastor Dennis and also Dr. Ken Berry for very helpful information I believe I can trust. May God bless you for getting THE TRUTH out there.
