  1. When I step out of home and head to the city my favorite place to eat my diabetic meal in the Philippines is at McDonalds where I also get a 20% senior citizen discount! How awesome is that ! Just as you have advised Dennis, I make sure I avoid the buns (carbs) and stick to the cheeseburger patty and cheddar cheese . I also down it with a freshly brewed coffee sweetened with Splenda ! My sugar levels are finally in control ! Thank you for your inspiring videos. God Bless !

  2. A1c is very important, but it’s not the only important metric. Unfortunately, many in the low carb community continue to try to maintain that non hdl cholesterol is not important. It is extremely important. An example of misinformation is the Norwitz “lean mass hyper responder” study, which claimed to show that there was no plaque progression in this particular group who had healthy vitals overall, but high cholesterol. When multiple people looked at their actual data, it turned out there was a very rapid plaque progression, and it was mis-represented. Also very important are blood pressure, waist to height ratio, muscle strength, and cardiovascular fitness.

    1. Good points. Parts of the low carb community have some monumental gaps in reasoning, not unlike other dietary camps (e.g. whole foods plant based). And I’m on a low carb diet / keto diet. Regarding A1c, I would add that it can have significant error, especially in low carb athletes. My A1c estimates a blood glucose level much higher than my actual average glucose. non-HDL-C is a crucial blood marker.

  3. I reversed my prediabetes from 6.1 to a normal 5.2 A1C by quitting table sugar and sugary treats. Also lost 30 pounds. I eat whatever I want in smaller portions and A1C remains normal. Also cholesterol, triglycerides and BP went down to normal and quit the meds. Doctor orders labs on me every 3 months.

A days worth of meals: Eggs and sausage breakfast; Extremely interesting Nigerian soup dish for lunch and 4 McDonald’s hamburger patties for dinner. Per Dr. Bernstein, “I think I can make my blood sugar numbers whatever I want to them to be!”
