What I Wish I Knew Before Hitting Perimenopause

insulin resistance, diabetes, blood sugar, weight loss

After 20 years in fitness, I thought I knew what worked—until perimenopause hit. Overtraining and undereating wrecked my metabolism, hormones, and mindset. In this short, I share what I wish I knew before everything changed—and how I finally found balance and results by doing less.

  • @coredadventure1 says:

Yep it was no pain no gain back then

  • @angela7185 says:

At 51 I too wish we were told 30 years ago, protein, strength training, Creatine and walking were the keys. It makes me sad for the generations before us, like our mothers, who missed out on this vital life saving information❤ 😢

Serious question: I hear that life “gets even better” after menopause. How is it better when we’re permanently losing the hormones that make our bodies run so optimally? I understand the symptoms occur due to our hormones changing/declining, so what makes the symptoms stop? Thanks for your thoughts! ❤

    • @angelagrant2943 says:

      Great question ❤.

    • @willowdreams1786 says:

Replacing your hormones with HRT & supplements. New studies show that hormones are not bad, in fact they r beneficial. I use MIDI health to get my estrogen patch & oral micronised progesterone. I feel so much better & the night sweats r pretty much gone. I also take low doses of testosterone troche for bone & muscle & low libido. Hope that info helps.😊

    • @lauriemulhollem says:

@angelagrant2943 Thanks! I’ve listened to several podcasts by doctors who specialize in women’s health, and I don’t recall hearing them talk about post-menopause protocol. Got me thinking…❤

    • @lauriemulhollem says:

@@willowdreams1786Thank you for sharing! Is the goal to stay on HRT forever? If not, at what point does your healthcare professional predict you’ll wean off HRT? ❤

I too am a lady from the 80’s and yes we did allot of cardio and not great results overall. I’m so glad you mentioned you don’t follow macros anymore-thank you! I enjoy walking – so glad you mentioned how important it is because it’s so doable 👍🏻. You’ve inspired me to look deeper into walking.

  • @pjdes2820 says:

I was teaching the same when you were… thank God for intervening! Lol🤪

  • @Goodboycat-d4x says:

Oh I’ve been lifting weights and walking but I’ve been alternating. I didn’t know you walked every day I’m going to start doing that I also have my 12 lb weight vest.

  • @ed6954 says:

❤❤I’ve lost 6 lbs fat and gained 3 lbs muscle since March when I started following you! Weighted vest while working out and adding 2 days of walking when I don’t go to the gym, creating, more protein!
And you showed us how the data is based on men, not women and women’s hormones. I’m so glad I found you Chalene!❤❤

  • @brendamclean8447 says:

You look incredible and your message is powerful❤

  • @wednesdayjoshua1674 says:

Chelene, I love your top! It’s so pretty💜

  • @leatelierr says:

I just love that you are not doubling down. (Julian Michaels 🤫) I love that you are evolving and growing you know as where you’re aging it’s awesome. I love it! Thank you for not gaslighting us and just being open and honest about everything. I mean that’s the way it goes. Remember when everybody was all freaked out because for years they told us that eggs were bad and then eggs made it come back I mean, how long is that been 20 years? I don’t know, but that was kind of like the start of it and that’s just the way it goes. Science progresses. We evolved as a humanity and as individuals and things change and I love it and we should be more malleable because it’s just a lot cooler way to be. It’s a lot easier and way more fun!

  • @TruthLoveConnection says:

❤ very much relate to this

  • @gracegutierrezbuencamino1887 says:

Thank you Chalene for correcting the mistakes we all made when we were young. I admire you for that!

  • @onderinozu9433 says:

Have you had an interview with the horomone specialist you mentioned in this video ? Could you tell me the link of the video if it exists ?

  • @jennygouws413 says:

We have learned so much in the last 10 years. Live and learn. GRATEFUL for you..❤

  • @karikuball1958 says:

I’m so a victim of the 80s exercise craze, aerobics aerobics aerobics, low fat, eggs were evil, red meat was evil. I now have learned better, but it took years to retrain my brain. She is absolutely spot on here.

  • @jeanavery4451 says:

Walking is my non-negotiable too. It has been a game changer for me, and honestly, I love it! Chalene, can you share the link to the weighted vest you use? I’ve looked at so many on Amazon, but a lot of them, the reviews aren’t all that great for comfort, and a lot of them rub the skin too. Thanks!!!!

  • @Godblessed2 says:

Years before menopause, when the Midwest weather was good for a long while. I walked an hour just a few times a week. My path included a steep winding road and my reward (at the half way mark) was the drinking fountain at the park at the top of the hill. The whole trek was 3 miles and took me an hour. The weight melted off me. They didn’t have reusable water bottles, cute backpacks, weighted vests, back in that day. I did occasionally use ankle weights. I’m excited to see what will happen when I’m consistent with doing this again. Got my weighted vests from prime day!

  • @jeanettehigginbotham says:

    Your hair is beautiful!

  • @Shy-m1o says:

Yes I agree I’m walking with my weighted vast and lifting weights and that’s a game changer.
