  1. Your info changed my life since 5 years ago. Thank you for bringing truth to the world, Doc! Stay strong!😊

    1. Yes, but doing strength training helps keep muscle. Fasting tends to eliminate the visceral fat first luckily. Check out Dr Pradip Jahmanes and Dr Mindy Pelz especially for women. Hope that helps

  2. I never fasted till age 61. An easy free, life changing health management tool. I will be using for the rest of my life.

    1. Thanks for posting your age for this. I’m 61 and all the internet AI tells me it’s terrible for me. I find doing a fast for a reset doesn’t work. However when I’m being really good and then I just do a 36 hour fast it feels best. Thanks for sharing!

    2. @ninjapawoodI’m 57 and my husband is 62 and we both fast. Both have lost significant weight and he reversed his type 2

    3. @Fairfax69 that’s amazing 🤩 so happy for you both. I will keep your success in my thoughts and keep practicing Dr. Fung’s methods. Thanks for sharing!

    4. @n@ninjapawood’m about a decade younger but our stories mirror. Real healing, weightloss happens for me with 36h fast. It’s the only thing that squashes hunger & banishes cravings/food noise. Longer than 36h doesn’t really interest me (sleeplessness creeps in). Daily I range b/w 16-21 hr eating window. You can do it too! Edit: I’m doing 36h once a fortnight or every 3-4 weeks (Thursday after dinner till Saturday lunch =40h).

    5. @l@leanne-gr8that actually makes sense for me too 🤔 I will be more flexible with my eating window instead of omad which I can not seem to maintain for long before I can’t sleep either and end in an eating frenzy 😔
      Thank you for the encouragement!

  3. Since I entered menopause, I’ve gained 6 kilos. I do intermittent fasting, but when I weigh myself, I notice that my body fat isn’t decreasing. Could you tell me what I can do?

    1. Try OMAD and be strict with it for a couple of weeks first and see how you do. I’m on the same boat as you are and that has helped me

    2. Are your hormones balanced? Many women find help w/ HRT. New research shows many health benefits from it.

    3. Check out Dr Pradip Jahmanes and Dr Mindy Pelz especially for women. I personally had to do a longer fast to sort of jump start things. Plus there’s an order to eat things when you refeed. Fiber first, then protein, then carbs if any. If you’re body isn’t metabolically ready, you might have difficulty. Dr Jahmanes says he’ll get a full history on his patients – any trauma, why or how long they’ve been overweight. Whole foods – nothing processed (if it has a bar code – warning). Just start by eliminating one meal. Do that for 2 weeks. Good there, now eliminate another meal for another two weeks. By doing things gradually, he finds people are more likely to stick with it. Dr Pelz says everyone needs to find their own fasting rhythm. Might have to experiment – 5 days, 1 day, 1 day – what works for you and your body. She’s awesome especially for women because of how many phases we go through – are we too stressed out to fast, are we so obsessed with weight loss that we can’t even think about anything else, are you in your cycle and if so what week, might have to mix things up – strength training, HIT, love Dr Jahmanes – he’ll do 50 knee raises really fast as fast as he can then he just rests – ahhhh! etc.

  4. It is said skipping breakfast damages circadian rhythm and could damage heart health. Please advise.

    1. First meal of day is called break fast because you fasted while sleeping. Get all eating done by 6pm latest within 8 hr window.

    2. we are an experiment of one. what works for you may not work for me. i haven’t eaten breakfast for over 6 years and i have no ill-effects. it’s silly to force myself to eat when i’m honestly not hungry. (i can’t speak to the circadian rhythm because i’m still figuring that one out.)

    3. Check out Dr Pradip Jahmanes videos – he’s actually a practicing cardiologist. Hope that helps

  5. 58 and been fasting for 17mths and have lost 70 lbs! I love the information Dr Fung allows everyone to hear and make a decision for themselves! I Omad and fasting and will never go back to 3 meals a day..ever !

  6. I have been fasting for years. Had a dr tell me not to because it spikes cortisol. Can you speak on that?

    1. You may find Dr. Jamnadas’ videos helpful, too. He’s got videos that explain fasting in detail and what it does to our bodies. I only listen to these two doctors.

    1. I believe Dr Pradip Jahmanes talks about that. Keto usually helps as well. Hope that helps

  7. @DrJasonFung , First of all, I am a fan of you. I transformed my life at 34 because of you. But after fasting for 5 years, I realized that fasting stopped being effective for me even when I increased the IF window from 14-15 hours to 19-20 hours. I am now 40 and perimenopausal. My visceral fat is not going no matter what I do: leaving sugar/ eating clean/ gymming…

I don’t think you’re right here. Women have their monthly cycle and fasting a week before the periods or during periods is not a great idea due to increased progesterone and hence increased hunger and energy needs during these times. IF during these times may only contribute to increased cortisol and hormonal imbalance.

Please share your viewpoint on the above.

    1. You won’t have increased progesterone during PMS if you’re fasting, and that will trigger anxiety and other PMDD symptoms as well as hair loss. You have cravings for carbs and are more hungry during pms because you need to eat, and not doing so damages your hormonal balance. If you don’t make progesterone you will have estrogen dominance. In perimenopause that will likely cause terrible anxiety that lasts the entire month following it and can sometimes last two months, even if you stop fasting. There’s a window to make the progesterone and if you miss it, that’s it until the next cycle. I experienced this myself. I had been doing omad and extended fasts for years and then I hit 35. Keto doesn’t work during pms either.

    2. @HeatherHasGame Thank you for your reply Heather. Yes, I have had severe hair thinning, especially in the frontal area since I started doing IF and it never went away no matter how many supplements I took… I really hope @DrJasonFung sees this and addresses this query.

    3. Check out Dr Mindy Pelz especially for women. Fast like a girl book. She’s really got things dialed in for women. I had a bit of hair loss the first time I started fasting and also realized it actually does matter what you eat for that one meal. Had to stop fasting for a while. Now that am doing it again and my husband is even on board now, not near as much hair loss. Dr Pradip Jahmanes also helps – he’s so funny and really cares. Hope that helps.
