There’s more than one way to explore sobriety.

This is my story not to suggest that it will work for everyone, but the bottom line is this… Nothing about alcohol makes me more attractive, more powerful, healthier, or even more fun.

probably the most surprising part of all of this is I just never realized what an impact it would have on my belief in myself. I guess when you’ve done something for 42 years you just think it’s the kind of person you are. It was impossible for me to imagine what parties, weddings, fancy dinners, travel, holidays would look like without it. So giving myself permission to have a drink in those situations if I wanted to was the freedom I needed to make it a reality. And I still give myself that permission. I just very rarely have the desire to have a drink in much the same way. I very rarely have the desire to eat creamed corn. That doesn’t mean I will refuse it if it’s offered to me… I just can’t imagine myself craving it.

What’s your story?

  1. It’s called alcoholism. People think being an alcoholic is ONLY this one typical type of drinking all the time and not being able to be sober for one minute. There’s actually a lot of different types of alcoholism and when you go on a activity like traveling or a restaurant and your first reflex is calling for drinks because like you said “you don’t know what else what to do in those moments” is a type of alcoholism. The only solution is to break this habit and re-learn. You can also be an alcoholic by being a person who RARELY drinks but when this same person drinks, he loses it and drinks until there’s no more alcohol in the house or until he’s totally knocked down. Alcoholism is when the alcohol is the principle actor of the moment or life depending on the gravity of the problem. Glad you realize it. It’s NEVER too late to learn and improve ourselves ❤❤

  2. U are right. My husband gave up alcohol this 1st of January and he didn’t cheat yet. I like to drink. Maybe im an addict, maybe not. I can go to India and not drink a drop and go to metal party and not drink a drop or the opposite: I can be devastated beyond recognition. For sure it doesn’t help my appearance but something for something. 😂 Maybe Ill grow up someday-or never. 😂

  3. I was exactly like you. I decided to stop in August 2024 and felt so much better with more clarity in my life!

  4. Almost 5 years sober at 54, and it just keeps getting better! I was addicted to numbing out and the lies alcohol lead me to believe. Freedom!🙏🏼❤️‍🩹🤍🕊️

  5. I like to drink but yes I should probably quit which is a bummer, probably will on vacation tho. We don’t go longer than a week! I am a one n done kinda drinker if I drink at all but as my level goes up 54, I see my face puffiness more too! if u don’t control alcohol then it will control u so that’s why my rule of one n done exists, honestly I am ok with it for now n on weekends only! If someone is going beyond the limits they set for themselves with drinking n then that’s no good, it’s probably some of my hold up with weight loss too!

  6. Level 59 🙋🏻‍♀️ Rarely taken a sip of alcohol for 9 year and I feel great

I used to feel the affects of 1 drink and it’s just not worth it

  7. Alcohol is a neurotoxin. You can learn healthier ways to relax and feel joyous without it.
