Hi Amy, When I was in school, we had 50 minutes to devote to a subject. Then, we had to switch to another subject. Sometimes, we had to switch before we finished a topic. We’re we task switching then? Well, my life has lots of things to be done. I give a block of time to each subject, and then I move on to something else. I batch email checking and my subscribed YouTube channels. When I clean my house I batch it with laundry. I set a timer on my phone to transfer the load from the washer to the dryer. When that’s been done, I return to cleaning. At least my mind is on cleaning. I agree, if you think of something to do that’s outside your current focus, then just write down the idea and go back to work. When finished, handle the calls, emails, and mini jobs on your list. Sorry for this rant, but all this came to mind.

If you have ADHD task switching is stimulating thus it keeps us engaged. It may be true that monotasking is more efficient, but it’s a moot point if we don’t have a mono tasking function in our brain. We’re also better at task switching than the Neurotypicals.
