71 yr old Grandma here, been fasting almost 3 yrs and I’m healthier and feel better than any time in my life. I do omad and usually fast around 20 hrs a day.
Is it harder to do longer fast without estrogen and post menopause? I find that I am losing a lot of hair and my fast I have to cut short before period.

Very intelligent question !! I suggest you to start with 16:8 Intermittent Fasting. You will not get miracle overnight.

I saw improvement in a week with OMAD and I hope the weight loss will accelerate with a longer fast.
@Libra-v1rProlonged fasting have both positive and negative effects. I suggest OMAD with some less calories intake e.g.,if you need 2000 calories, take 1500 calories. You will be able to calculate your calorie need from the internet. You may also take help from a dietician.

@PrasantaDatta-f3gI have done 16:8 for 4 years without fail and never dropped a single lb. I grew up in the 50 ‘ s and 60 ‘ s where there were no snacks ( you’ll spoil ur dinner) and kitchen was closed after dinner. I think the 16: 8 idea works for young people who grew up in a culture where food was available 24/7 and snacking was a way of life. For us old timers, 16:8 is the way we were raised and have always eaten. It’s not doing a damn thing to help me lose fat now.

What about those with gallstone issues? My Dr told me not to fast anymore, and to have at least a little fat 3-4 times every day. Could a teaspoon of olive-oil 4 times a day work as a fasting mimicking diet? Also having PCOS/PMOS, I was again advised not to fast – but I have insulin resistance and plenty of excess fat to lose. And chronic migraines too, again advised to eat frequently/regularly. I find myself confused what to do with so much conflicting advice and several health conditions, but needing to address insulin resistance and obesity.
Why don’t your doctor advice you to remove gallstones at the earliest possible opportunity? It may cause trouble anytime if not removed. After that operation you should correct your Insulin Resistance which is the root cause of obesity, PMOS etc. Stay healthy.
@PrasantaDatta-f3g I cannot afford private healthcare, so will need to wait over 18 months before I can even be considered for gallbladder removal. And it would not help me with the issue of chronic migraines or several other health conditions I have. I need options I can work with while navigating healthcare and health condition limitations

What about hair loss
Body may get necessary calories from stored body fat during prolonged fasting. But where from it will get amino acids (specially essential amino acids) ,essential fatty acids, minerals and vitamins (which are not stored in the body in sufficient amount)?Do the answers to the loss of lean mass or fall of hair lies in this question?😮
Im 63 I have been doi g the OMAD way of life for about 9 years now and I haven’t lost anything. I do have lipedima, and I gained 80 pounds durinv menopause while fasting. What do you think is wrong? Why cant I lose weight?
Adequate nutrition and adequate body fat are not the same thing… are they? and doesn’t fasting increase cortisol for menopausal women?

Its really hard to explain to ppl who care abt us abt fasting,insullin, sugar, carbs, keto diet as they love us, they think we r harming our body due to their own knowledge n understanding. I ve been on this battle since 2018 til nw.. Its a lonely journey but im still on the right track.
