Complete Guide to Type 2 Diabetes Reversal | The Diabetes Code Clinic (Part 3)

insulin resistance, diabetes, blood sugar, weight loss

Hi, I’m Dr. Jason Fung, and welcome to Part 3 of the Diabetes Code Clinic, where we focus on reversing Type 2 diabetes through proven methods. If you missed Parts 1 and 2, I recommend watching those first, as we discussed what Type 2 diabetes is and introduced the low carbohydrate diet.

In today’s video, we’re diving deeper into the low carbohydrate diet and why it’s one of the most effective approaches for reversing Type 2 diabetes. The key to managing this disease lies in understanding how blood glucose levels are affected by what you eat. Using tools like the glycemic index and glycemic load, you can identify foods that raise your blood sugar and those that don’t.

You’ll learn:
✔️ Why cutting carbohydrates is essential for managing diabetes
✔️ The difference between refined and natural carbohydrates
✔️ How foods like vegetables, proteins, and healthy fats can stabilize blood sugar
✔️ Easy swaps and practical tips to stick to a low-carb diet
✔️ What happens if your blood sugar drops too low—and how to handle it

Key Points:
✅ Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body is overwhelmed with glucose, causing blood sugar levels to rise.
✅ A low carbohydrate diet targets the root cause—excess glucose—by reducing sugar intake and prioritizing foods that don’t spike blood sugar.
✅ Using tools like the glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load, you can make informed choices about what to eat.
✅ Refined carbs (like bread and cornflakes) spike blood sugar, while natural carbs (like carrots and cauliflower) have a much lower impact.
✅ Incorporating low-carb, high-protein foods such as chicken, beef, eggs, and non-starchy vegetables can significantly improve blood glucose levels.

Tips for Following a Low-Carb Diet:
1️⃣ Choose Whole Foods: Focus on natural, unprocessed foods.
2️⃣ Fill Your Plate Smartly: Half with non-starchy vegetables, half with proteins.
3️⃣ Try Low-Carb Substitutes: Use lettuce wraps, cauliflower rice, or konjac noodles instead of bread and traditional pasta.
4️⃣ Monitor Your Blood Sugar: If you’re on diabetes medication, consult your doctor to adjust dosages as needed.

Benefits of a Low-Carb Diet:
📉 Reduces blood sugar levels and HbA1c
⚖️ Promotes weight loss
💊 Reduces dependency on diabetes medications
✔️ Scientifically backed by organizations like the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the American Heart Association (AHA)

  • @bestbadcompany says:

This is amazing. My misinformed dr told me 12 years ago told me my sugar should be at 90-100 and after eating should go up to 180 using the Mediterranean diet. 2018 had a brain bleed after he said blood pressure med was causing high potassium without putting me on another. I got into a high stess situation and that’s when the brain bleed happened. I got rid of him 5 years ago and went low carb and everything has got better. Lost 20 lbs and perfect blood pressure and he also said I would have diabetes forever. I do better taking control of my own health with being misinformed.

    • @Handsoflight7766 says:

@@bestbadcompany the medical field is still about 60 years behind on many levels and doctors are like hairstylists… if they don’t keep up with classes and such they’re just old doctors. Some things remain the same but methodology and upgrades are always being created.

  • @NosyHausfrau says:

I’m doing everything right and after a month, I’ve lost 15 lbs but my fasting blood sugar is still hovering over 200. It was near 500 when I started so I’m glad but I’m sure looking forward to that “safety zone”. Don’t worry Doc, I’m sticking with it. I can’t believe I have conquered hunger as I have. It was easy from almost the beginning. It’s just going to take longer for me. I was thinking, I’m 57 and considering I have eaten poorly my entire adult life, if it only takes 6 months to a year to reverse my metabolic disease, that’s not too much to ask. In fact, it’s pretty forgiving. Thank you for the encouragement and shared knowledge.

  • @JohnsonNestorFamily says:

I’m 61 now, I’m eating more ketovore now, maintaining great and loving my fasting lifestyle. Thanks for all you do 🙏👍🥰

Thank you Dr Fung!!! For over 3 years now, my hubby & I have eaten a very low carb diet, lots of meat, a fair amount of animal fat, & low carb. If we cheat, we get right back on track the very next day … if not a few hours later … & we stay on track. We also do daily intermittent fasting consistently for 12-18 hours. How totally & wonderfully life-changing it has been!

  • @normanappleton3627 says:

My doctor is helping me with weight management. He encouraged IF and to start that very day to my surprise. I started out great with food choices. Then I got a little off course but I continued with IF. My skin tags have shrunk in such a little time. About 10 days. I want to lower my carbs as he had suggested. Thanks, Dr. Fung

  • @sivakumarkadali says:

Thank you Mr. Jason Fung. Because of you I’m able to maintain my blood glucose levels in normal range even after stopping my diabetic medication
