One of my viewers told me he was on a low carb diet for an entire thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. For those not familiar with long-distance hiking, this means he hiked 2200 miles on a continuous trip, walking all day every day (with some days off, I assume) for several months. It is definitely possible to do it on low carbs.

I’ve hiked the Georgia section. What did he carry, coconut oil and protein powder?

    • @mystatinfreelife says:

@IvorMektin1701  I don’t know. For shorter trips, there is a company “Next Mile Meals” that makes low-carb trail meals, but for a thru-hike, that gets expensive. And I’m sure he wasn’t carrying steaks with him.

The number 1 predicter of a heart event is “how is your glucose?” Thanks for the reminder, Dennis.

On the issue of carb loading for athletes, the instructive story is of Dr. Tim Noakes (From South Africa) who wrote the books on carb loading for runners and he himself ran a lot of marathons, and yet he eventually developed diabetes and became the biggest advocated for a low carb diet, even for athletes.

Thanks for your informative video..perfectly well said..

When your glucose levels are out of control it causes high blood pressure. But instead of a medical professional telling you this they tell you to cut out salt then take a prescription. If you don’t change your diet to lower glucose you’ll just keep getting more and more drugs which don’t touch the root cause.

Diagnosed as diabetic T2 in September 2023. Researched and listened to a number of videos presented on YT. After changing my diet to Low Carb and increased fat as Dennis advocates and practicing strictly for 6 months my A1C has returned to normal. Now, after one year my A1C remains normal, my lipid panel is solidly normal on all fronts after being abnormal for a number of years. If that isn’t enough, my PSA actually went from 1.4 (which is low for 75 y.o.) to .7! Many thanks to Dennis, Dr.Sara Hallberg, Dr. Fung, Dr. Berry, Dr. Lustig and Dr. Davis whose books I have read and videos I’ve watched. Diabetes is most certainly reversible. As a bonus to eating a proper diet, my joints and feet no longer hurt as inflammation has greatly subsided and I no longer suffer with occasional GIRD. It has been a win-win on all accounts.

Greetings from Ethiopia. That was very awakening. Thank you, Dennis.

  • @Fair-to-Middling says:

Does anyone here know what Dennis considers a glucose ‘spike’, as in how high does it have to go and how fast does it have to go down?

  • @johnsonpaul1914 says:

Over a period of about two years my carotid blockage disappeared eating very low carb. Less than 10 per day. I am 77 and the last cardiologist visit, she said two years to the next visit unless I feel something wrong. Her words were , “I dont like how you eat, but dont stop”
