Bread is not cheap in the USA. Poor people are the most obese.

to be fair cutting calories or decreasing the volume of each meal can be a difficult adjustment at first; especially if you still feel really hungry after a meal. but that’s why i truly appreciate Dennis’ dose of honest tough love. health and longevity over a big portion of food. it might be helpful to those adjusting to this healthier way of eating to know that cutting carbs and replacing it with more protein will help decrease that appetite. thereafter they’ll find the smaller portion will indeed be more satisfactory.

I don’t have to get the exact food ingredients you mention, but I take the concept and substitute foods that i have, besides when I eat less carbs and sugars i eat less often, less food ergo less money spent. Additional less or no medication, win win win all the way.

Another must is to not snack after your last meal of the day. That will solve a good percentage of the blood sugar problem.

  • @JonJaeden says:

I have found low-carb eating to be the cure for stuffing myself. I simply can’t eat as much as I used to. I don’t have the capacity or the desire. I reach satiety quicker and it lasts longer. When I was carb-careless, I felt cravings I don’t have now. I would find myself standing at the refrigerator door anytime I felt stress … hardly ever now. I have no desire for between-meal snacks or anything super-sweet.

I’ve had mixed success in the past with low-carb, losing weight and then gaining it back. I think my mistake was trying to fit my unhealthy way of eating into a low-carb diet. Eventually, I would rationalize and compromise my way back to eating the old way, albeit with low-carb intentions.

The success I’m currently experiencing is due, I’m certain, to focusing on avoiding spikes of glucose and insulin. Those spikes were what had been fueling the food cravings and carb-addiction that resulted in eating too much. Targeting the spikes has been the key. It has created its own food-discipline by changing what my body desires. Almost feels like magic.

If you live in a food desert, the local Stop-And-Rob store won’t have kale and almond flower but will have soda and chips.

  • @stephanievantonder1096 says:

Almond flour is very expensive. I switched to sesame seed flour. Not ideal but I can bake with it.

  • @amy11228 says:

If the only option is to eat higher carb foods, be certain to have a shorter eating window in your day and don’t snack. Also, take days where you fast the entire day with only water and salt. Make it a priority to move your body. Take walks after every meal, even just for 10 or 15 mins. If you can’t get out for a walk, do air squats or sit-to-stand off the floor or a chair, or do things like jumping jacks, jump rope (even without a rope you can mimic the movement), do pushups, go up and down the stairs in your building. Lots of ways to get the glucose to go into your cells if carbs are the only food available to you.
