I am 58 and have been on a similar journey. So glad to hear you talk openly and honest about this topic.

  • HappySolitude says:

I’m 53 with advanced spinal stenosis so exercise is tough. But….like you i do focus on short bursts of activity.

I was actually approved for WLS but i lost 50 pounds with the nutritionist’s help . My partner and i decided not to go through with the surgery and keep going on my own. Its working!

Im starting to explore in-bed stretches and exercises so any info on that would be great.

    Love you Chalene! ❤

  • Beverly Liesy says:

Your video is just what I needed to hear, as I can relate to everything you’re discussing. Especially as a woman in my 40’s who did many of your Beachbody videos. I appreciate your honesty and transparency of what you were going through behind the scenes. What a huge eye-opener for me to know I don’t need to always run, and just be ‘active’. Please continue sharing content.

  • Kelly Biggs says:

I’m 50 and perimenopause. I have been the same weight my whole life. I started to gain weight last year so I upped my exercise because I’m a clean eater. I continued to gain until I started exercising less and just having more daily movement. Also started focusing on sleep more. Weight went back down and I’m exercising less. Agree with all of this great info. Thanks Chalene💪🏽❤️💪🏽

    • Terri Issac says:

I am struggling with my weight since menopause. I will keep researching until I get the results I want. I love the real talk.

    • 1524scooter says:

Please look into Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, pellets, its literally saved my life. I feel like a teenager again, at 56.

    • Stephenie Janson says:

I love ❤️ ❤ Dr Michelle Sands BHRT creams!! Game changer!

    • Elle Lutz says:

You really touched my mind and heart with this. It was spot on in every way. New subscriber here. ❤ thank you

    • Wanda Criollo says:

You are 100% right I’m 53 with menopause I had a cyst tumor the size of a soccer ball just 8 months ago taken out. Now I’m getting it, how portion control and combined balance meals it’s working for me better. Thanks for your great talk, I’m going to follow you and share with my daughters.

  • lifeslittle luxury says:

Wow! I relate to this so much Chalene!! I am right there with you. I am 54 this year and I have done everything you are talking about. I missed out on so much in life as well because I didn’t want to miss a workout and obsessively checking the scale multiple times a day. It was tiring. Now, I workout strength training (which I love) and walk every day. I love that time alone. I also agree with hormones. I take bio identical hormones and it has changed my life! 💕

    • joanna patterson says:

I am the same. I focus more on strength training and mobility work, plus daily walks.
I don’t weigh myself anymore. Good nutrition and sleep is important.

  • Leena B says:

Thank you for all of the information Charlene! I am new to your channel (just found you today and subscribed) and I already love you! I have struggled with self esteem and weight issues for most of my life (I’m 41 now) and I so tired of not feeling good, not feeling like I’m enough, not working out hard enough, not doing the right things to lose weight; however in the last 2 weeks I have implemented a few of your recommendations from this video. I can’t thank you enough for providing more information that I know is going to help me… most importantly I’m on a journey to love myself, be kind to myself and don’t be mean to my body, as you said. Thank you for confirming a few things for me and inspiring me to continue to change my lifestyle to be my best self! ❤

  • Karen Berg-Redouxinteriors says:

Thank you for this. I am 54 and gained weight last year, with nothing changing in what always worked for me. I am working on balancing my hormones as I realized this was the missing component, plus increased the amount of weight I lift. I truly appreciate your thoughts on this. I am not at peace with the way I feel at this time, but you gave me a lot to think about.

  • Tina Jene says:

Hi Charlene , just watched your pod cast and you are on target with everything!!! I’m in my first year of menopause and I can truly say it’s about the honesty of our diets that sabotage the success! I esp like the comment on how our metabolism changes and we need a big enough calorie deficit for weight loss to work. Personally intermit fasting has helped me realize how much better I feel and less hungry when I cut off my hunger time by 6. Now it’s just a routine ty for great advice!

  • ZZ says:

Im 57 and weigh 156 and Im 5 ft tall. I just had a dr appt, and the dr told me im obese because of my BMI. I have been doing strength training and my clothes have been fitting me better. But when the dr told me that it totally set me back and i was so depressed. Before the dr i felt great after i felt like crap. Thank you for this video, im going to continue doing me and not worry about the scale.

    • Kirsten Brogan says:

Hi honey, I’m a personal trainer. I love that your in the gym. Treat yourself like a queen and eat the best quality food you can afford. Processed food out as much as possible. Never give up! Pushing forward past peoples comments tells me you’re going to be great!

    • M Smith says:

Don’t quit! This does work. I’m just getting back on track after I did so well last year.

You can & will make it!!! ❤

    • Kurt Becker says:

stay focussed. work the plan. TRUST the process! I speak to you as a 6’2″ guy who weights in at 255. down from 385 from a little over two years ago. spent the last year in the gym pushing weights around (about two hours) and an hour of HIIT (interval training on a stationary bike) after. Started out at 270… now down to 255, but it’s been a slow HARD fight. Still, you can do the math, at my height/weight I’m obese (32.7 BMI). it’s gonna be TOUGH to get to ‘green’ for a large body type. but I’m feeling better, stronger. TRUST YOUR PROCESS…

    • Kirsten Brogan says:

@Kurt Becker  congratulations on your success thus far. 👏

  • Kats Foil Hat says:

Long long time follower, since Turbo Jam. We are the same age and I listened to you today while doing my NEAT walk on the treadmill. My journey is on point with your podcast. HRT, tracking macros but definitely not obsessive, and progressive overload at the gym. Menopause shape is changing!!! And yes I love the sleep I’m getting on HRT. Ladies put yourself first. Don’t waste one more day feeling down and stuck. Love you always Chalene!🫶🏻

    • McNaBb Chroniclez says:

      🙌🏼

    • Elizabeth Howell says:

How do you get your HRT done? My dr won’t even discuss it with me.

    • Frenchblue8 says:

I thought the name sounded familiar and then when you said turbo jam I’m like yeah that girl was so sweet and cool an energetic. But this woman’s voice is so deep, it just doesn’t sound like the same person but I guess it must be.
      Yeah I’m completely baffled

    • Tracey Ní Breitheamh 🇮🇪 says:

Chalene talked about her vocals changing on a podcast. I can’t remember what caused it, what she said was she can’t sing the way she used to, like the high notes. The reason escapes me now, yep that is the Beach body girl. She’s just the same to me, looks great. She’s always so real.

    • Kats Foil Hat says:

@Elizabeth Howell I already had a naturopath Dr. My regular Dr. never prescribes anything. His patients just suffer I guess. My symptoms were unbearable. Thought I’d be able to ride through it but I couldn’t.

  • Erin MacTavish says:

Charlene!! I had been doing your workout videos for years starting from when I was in my late twenties and always loved them and loved you! I was wondering what happened to you! I am so happy that you are doing well and have found a truer path for yourself. I am now 45 and am finding my fitness and diet regime changing for the better. Great to see you!!

  • Lynda McAllister says:

61 years and I had the menopause body…I was always naturally thin until then. Went keto and then carnivore. I am in the BEST shape ever mentally and physically without strenuous exercise. My body needed the protein and the fat helped my hormones. Life changing and so easy.

    • Tiffany Owens says:

      Excellent!

    • Truthseeker says:

Me too! At 66 years old. Joint pain 85% gone. Energy consistent all day, my brain never gets foggy or confused. I am ketovore since 2017 and haven’t looked back since. No seed oils, no sugar, very light on dairy. Zero bloating, no stiffness and finally, lift heavy 2x per week. Walk every day 3-5 miles. I have to give all the credit to the online Leto and carnivore people, the ones that know what they are talking about.

    • serena devon says:

I tried carnivore & that got me no where. I went back to whole foods, fruits & vegetables but with meat & fats as main focus & my hair & skin improved.

    • Iss says:

Carnivore is a game changer for sure. Very easy. I think Chalene is right about unsustainable exercise.

  • ssmit4317 says:

On injections: I took it for 18 weeks

Pros: It did help with cravings and I did lose 1/2-1 lb a week. It’s been 3 weeks and I have not gained any of the weight back.

Cons: It did not cause me to lose 75lbs in 3 months like all of the examples I was told about. It did not bring my hunger to zero as I was told. It’s SUPER expensive. I actually feel much better without it.

Take away: I completely agree with Charlene! Just track calories and as you lose weight and change your eating habits, your cravings will go away.

  • Caroline Mansfield-Wright says:

When my kids were little and I couldn’t afford the gym I did turbo jam and loved it. I still incorporate several exercises in my routine. Thanks for all those fun workouts Charlene!

    • Karen Williams says:

OMG I wasn’t sure that was TURBO JAM LADY ..SHE LOOKS YOUNGER NOW….I still use that video…❤❤❤

  • psykmeistr says:

    1. Be self aware and honest with yourself about your habits
    2. Can you do this forever?
    3. You can’t exercise away bad nutrition. Exercise is better to change your shape than to lose weight.
    4. Nutrition is key. Creating a deficit can be tough when the gov’t allows manufacturers to be off as much 20%
    5. Don’t let the numbers on the scale dictate your mood. It can fluctuate wildly. Better to use your clothes as a guage.
    6. Exercise less, but be more active. NEAT=Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenosis. Cardio that isnt hard on your body. You can talk while doing it.
    7. Understand recovery. You need rest days in order to build muscle. Use progressive overload to put muscle on. Cardio won’t change your shape.
    8. Know your Hormone levels and balance them. It wont make you lose weight miraculously, but it will help you sleep better and feel better, and make better choices.
Side note on Ozempic: What happens when you go off it? Not enough long term studies. Cam you sistain that your whole life? You CAN change your cravings and appetite more naturally through nutrition and sleep.

  • Lauren P says:

Loved this! I’m 38 in 2 weeks and, after my second kid at 36, my body hasn’t bounced back the way I expected. I am accepting that age is a factor and it was refreshing to hear that walking and being active is probably my best bet at this point instead of trying to get back into my pre-babies fitness level and expectations. More sleep, less stress, staying active (with 2 toddlers, no problem) healthy real food, and not stressing over missed gym days – that is doable!! Thank you Chalene!

    • Jackie BHG says:

Lauren im almost exactly your age and (i turn 38 in July) and have 2 kids, 2nd one at 36 and im exactly 💯 feeling the way you do. Just wanted to say im loving the info in this vid and WE GOT THIS MAMA!!! 💪🩷

    • Caroline Keel says:

I’m 42 now but had my 2bd baby in my 30s and I honestly thought I would never loose the weight . I did absolutely nothing and it took about a year to shed the extra 60 lbs and when I lost all my extra weight I lost even more the following year by cutting carbs and eliminating wheat and dairy

  • Cindy Fuller says:

Great to see you again! I used to take all your classes at 24 HR fitness in Rancho Santa Margarita. Thank you for this; I’m 65 and killing it because of you! ❤

  • Elle Wood says:

Fasting has been a game changer for me. Started 3 1/2 years ago and have been able to maintain my weightloss! At 60 I am lifting heavy to failure, stand up straight, great bone density and have 2 autoimmune conditions. I sleep well every night and have no inflammation. The freedom I have now is incredible.

  • IntegrityIsEverything says:

I’m 55 and pre menopause I didn’t have a problem with my weight but over the last 4-5 years I’ve gained quite a bit more weight due to menopause and also a more sedentary job. I also noticed my body shape was changing drastically as my muscle mass was being replaced by fat. Over the last 4 months I’ve started a gym programme. First 6 weeks I was going to the gym 3 x a week but didn’t really change my diet except cutting down on sugar and fat and I didn’t lose any fat or gain any muscle. The second 6 weeks I changed my diet completely and started eating much more protein, started following someone same age as me and following her diet plan. I’m starting to see results now with more definition and my general fitness is increasing. I feel amazing and I don’t feel that I’m depriving myself. I feel that my old body shape is coming back

    • Chalene Johnson says:

Love this!! Thanks for sharing! I’m glad to know that you feel much better now. Keep it going sis!

  • Nikki Johnson says:

The most honest podcast I’ve heard in a very long time…. You’re such an inspiration! I just turned 40, and you are making me feel OK about aging because we CAN get stronger as we age!
    Thank you!
