I will no longer tell women to prioritize protein.

 

Women over 40 are only getting part of the story. Protein and weights are NOT enough to save your muscle…

Even if you’re lifting and prioritizing protein, if you’re in too steep of a calorie deficit, you will lose muscle. Every week I hear from women devastated to learn they’ve lost serious muscle and wondering if it’s their GLP-1 that feeling like their body is betraying them.

But the truth is this: muscle cannot be preserved or built without adequate calories and nutrients. Too much restriction, whether from an injection or diet doesn’t just shrink your waistline, it shrinks your muscle, weakens your bones, and accelerates aging.

REMINDER- just because someone’s muscles look more defined due to fat loss, does not mean you haven’t lost muscle. To be certain, ask your doctor to order a DEXA scan!

After 40, muscle is everything. It’s your metabolism. It’s your strength. It’s your independence. Your body – your choice but if it was me, I would strongly encourage you to prioritize calories in nutrients first.

  1. No woman over 45 should be on any Glp for more than 6 months. Learn how to eat and get off that poison. We have an obesity problem here and a shot is not going to fix the problem long term! Start eating healthy and exercising and stop the alcohol, vaping and smoking. And No, I Never smoked, drank alcohol, vaped or used GLP but my entire family has and they are all in poor health. However, I’ll probably die before they will 😂

    1. You should do more research before you make such a statement that others can take as true. Definitely some women and men can benefit for long-term use. I’ll take small dose of RTA-3 weekly until the next gen of peptides come out. Too many great benefits you don’t mention. It’s not all about weight.

    2. Totally agree with you. I think so many people are doing this because it’s fast and easy and they don’t want to put in the hard work. I am sure that there are a very small amount of people who do and will benefit from long term use of these meds which is great, but it’s not the majority. The companies pushing These medications are making billions of dollars, and will continue to profit in the future for the other issues and side effects it will cause. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

    3. I tell people what about gastroparesis and not being able to digest anything, this a happening to so many on the glp1 drugs. That’s not even the worst of it. Also if it slows down digestion all that food sits there and rots and food is meant to be eaten than digested at the pace your body naturally wants to rid you of the toxins and stuff you don’t need, or even food borne pathogens and parasites that had more time to simmer if its sitting there when the body’s natural digestive processes would of taken care of it the glp1 drugs are hindering. Lastly food that rots and putrifies in the gut is more likely to cause cancer. It doesn’t seem like a great thing at all.

  2. This is not true. I am a registered nurse and I can tell you firsthand that patients who prioritize protein and exercise while staying on the lowest dose of GLP-1 possible do just fine. Are there cases in which people don’t do well? Of course there are. But for the most part, the GLPs are safe and effective for weight loss. Low dose slow weight loss helps prevent muscle loss and hair loss.

    Most people are able to lose the weight they want to lose, and then transition to a microdose once every couple of weeks or once a month to maintain.

    And some people are able to get off of it completely and maintain with just diet and exercise.

    Most of the patients who have severe outcomes or adverse reactions are those that are already very sick due to comorbidities.

    Stop it with the scare tactics 🤦‍♀️

    1. Agree! I’ve been low dosing Reta since last October. Lost almost 20lbs in 8 months- nice and slow- 17lbs fat and 2.5lbs muscle. Yes I lost some muscle but I would’ve lost muscle doing an old-fashioned diet anyway. And I can say with my full chest I wouldn’t have lost 20lbs in 8 months the old-fashioned way… 😅 ❤

    2. If you have the rely upon lifelong injections that’s not a solution. People need to address what made them obese in the first place. Treating their mouths as garbage cans, sedentary lifestyle, etc.

    4. Not everyone wants to be on glp-1 to lose weight… As a nurse you should not just be pushing a RX but stating natural healthy ways to lose weight… Shame on you

  3. You’ve never been obese. Some really struggle with their weight. They otherwise won’t be able to lose the weight without help. Let people be. And you do what works for you.

    1. She is stating her truth not yours. I can’t tolerate high protein low carbs. Everyone is different.

  4. Thank you!!!!! I had 150 grams of protein per day and even though I worked out and ate well I couldn’t lose a lb. Now at 60 grams and along with increasing fibre before each meal, I’m losing weight!

    1. Incredibly difficult to do unless you’re a cat or you have a predisposition towards liver disease. Moderate protein isn’t a killer

  5. I get exhausted following these people for years and its “Oh, never mind. Everything I have been telling you to do was wrong. Now do this.” I am 60. How much longer until they figure it out? I’m running out of time 😂

    1. That’s why we can’t follow all these people that don’t know what they are doing. We have to look at good research.

  7. When I had more body fat to lose the extra protein was magic as well as intermittent fasting. Fast forward 5 years and I’m looking softer though I am still quite strong and I just kept increasing my protein and kept an IF eating window of 6-8 hrs. Turns out too much protein IS a thing if it gets so high causing too little room for other macros. This can especially effect lifting women causing your body to go through gluconeogenesis for much needed gkycogen that isn’t coming in from enough dietary carbohydrate. Problem here is this requires increasing corrisol to convert excess amino acids into glycogen but you don’t get the same calming effects as from dietary carbs. So poor sleep and soft mid section is what I’ve got to show for being too restrictive with calories and too much protein (1300-1700 calories and 200-220g protein).
    Feeling better with 1900-2000 cal and about 150 protein. Heavy lifter 3x/ wk 10k steps per day and 1 day sprint training 60 yo 💪

  8. Thanks, Chalene. You’re telling the truth. I’m currently eating way less than is good (prioritizing protein), but you better believe my eye is glued to my Hume Body Pod daily looking for one ounce of muscle to try and drop off. I’ll abandon this push for quicker weight loss before I let any muscle go.

  9. I thought I just seen a video where you mention eating protein first at every meal ? Isn’t this sort of pushing more protein then ? How is it better to eat more if other macros than protein when making up your daily calorie intake ?
