30 Days No Alcohol ❌😵 But I Didn’t Expect This!
Join me for my 21-Day "Walk More -Drink Less Challenge"
What happens after 30 days of no alcohol? Chalene Johnson explores the emotional and psychological changes many experience when they go sober, curious, and abstain from alcohol. Take a look at how drinking more sneaks into our lives without us realizing the impact it has on our health. From sneaking drinks as a teenager to social drinking as an adult, Chalene explains how alcohol can become a habit and, in some cases, a hobby with a negative influence on health, relationships, and overall well-being. She also shares her personal journey of questioning these habits, the realization of their effect on her body and mind, and offers insights for those "sober curious" or looking to reassess their relationship with alcohol.

I wanted to add a comment, but it doesn’t look like the normal comment section is open
I watched your video and I kept falling off the wagon, even though I do want to be free of alcohol. I have used it to get to sleep at night. That was my excuse, but then I would get absolutely crapfaced and look and feel like garbage the next day when I went to work. It was embarrassing because I knew people could see what was happening. So I have refused to reset my number from day one because I knew I’d fall off the wagon again.
If you decide to have a cycle more drink less challenge I’m totally down for it. I got back into cycling in November at the age of 54 and it’s helping me lose weight and get toned up and is a phenomenal way to socialize and get out and about and get some sunlight which we all need to be healthy. If I drink the night before, I have less energy for my muscles to push forward and go far.
Hopefully this comment does get added, and I look forward to any advice you have.
Hi thinking of stopping weekend drinking, what do you drink on an evening out ? Oo on holiday? Xxxx
I’ve been alcohol free for 13 years. I NEVER thought my life could be so fulfilled without a drop of it!!!
Exactly! Congratulations. So true.
Anyone who cares about their health, aging, etc. would never drink alcohol, especially in middle age.
Exactly.
True.
Thank you for waking me up to what I’m doing to my body and my brain. Thinking 2 glasses a day was okay when it’s totally not okay.
I appreciate that
Awareness is the first step toward change. I’m glad you find this video helpful!
Your story, history and self talk sounds exactly like my own. i am right behind you with 28 days alcohol free. It does get easier and i am feeling so much better.
You’re doing amazing!! Keep it going!!! 💪🏻
Congrats! You got this!
I’m so PROUD of you, Chalene!!! I have followed you for YEARS! Did your Turbo Fire videos in my classroom after school each day. Bought the false lashes you wore on Amazon and the cheap headphones you suggested. Literally, I’ve tuned in to sooo many podcasts you’ve done over the years, I can’t even count. You’ve kept me company while commuting, and I could not understand why you still drank as much as you love fitness and your body. You look AMAZING and work so hard, and I was so confused that you did. Seeing you make this change makes me soooo happy as one of the women who has been influenced by you! I’ve been sober for 3 summers now and can appreciate the stories about how someone comes to the realization it no longer serves them! God bless you!!!! As a teacher with summers off, I know how challenging it can be to be the only person in the room without a drink in their hand. Praise God drunk people annoy me! Hahaha That and getting sick from alcohol reminds me why quitting was the best decision I could make!!! Here’s to being a wonderful example to not only our kids, but to everyone else who may be looking for someone they know, love, and trust that it IS possible to give it up and replace that behavior with some kick @$$ mocktails recipes!!!!
Thank you so much 😍 Your message truly means the world to me. I’m so proud of you for your own journey too! It’s amazing to hear how long you’ve been part of my community, and I love that you’ve found joy and strength in your sobriety. Keep being that inspiring example to others — especially your students!
The Pregamer !! 😂 im watching this video hung over. Im 47 and perimenopause is just not cool. Alcohol makes it all worse! I stopped drinking last Jan for a month and started lifting weights and lost 20 pounds. Now its creeping back up. Nuh uh! Im so inflamed. So i am declaring now that im going to do the 21 day challenge!! 🎉❤
I’m proud of YOU!!!!! 💯 I’m post menopausal. I’m 57. I trying to be you x 🏴🇬🇧
Pretty soon it will be another month alcohol-free! I quit 35 days ago and this will me a more ingrained habit once the holidays hit.
I want to do this 21 day challenge too!
Turned 47 yesterday, n I’m havin a hanging over🤣🤣🤣! Mostly from the party yester night, but anyway.. 😅 Not a big drinker other days..👍
Love this so much! Alcohol definitely doesn’t help, especially during perimenopause. Congrats on your progress before, and I’m so happy that you’re jumping into the 21-day challenge with us! Let’s do this!!
I absolutely and completely APPRECIATE you pure and transparent honesty❣️
Thank you, Kelly!
You took the words right out of my mouth. I think when women, and people in general, are candid with eachother they truly help eachother
CHALENE! OMGOODNESS, I have been doing all the things you mention here before you realized alcohol was becoming a “thing” for you. 100%…comparing, making excuses, justifying, etc. Thanks to YOU, I have now begun my journey into an alcohol-free life! Got the book This Naked Mind (plus the audio version so I can listen while I’m busy!) , and my eyes have been opened as never before. I pray and ask God for His help through this process, and then to keep me from going back. Looking forward to seeing the extra mid-section weight to come off, and walking like my life depends on it (it DOES!). Thank you, my friend, for being vulnerable and truthful. You’ve made a real difference in my life! Muah!
Oh, you just don’t know how much I love this, Shannon! If I can do it, I know you can too! We got this!!
Just breezed through my first 10 days alcohol free after your last video on this! I too was avoiding the Huberman episode so it was just what i needed. I listened to the 10 day book you recommended, now I’m onto This Naked Mind. Bring on the quit lit! Thank you for sharing this publicly, without you I would still be waiting to address alcohol for my health. Here’s to a beautiful prefrontal cortex! ❤
That’s incredible—congrats on 10 days alcohol-free! 🎉 I’m so glad the video and recommendations helped you take that step! KEEP IT GOING!!! 💪🏻
Alcohol can slowly accerelerate into an addiction, what starts out as fun can slowly morph into a crutch or a habitual lifestyle. A slippery slope is so true, the irony is society accepts alcohol but not alcoholism.
For sure! I’ve seen it in my own family. It’s wild it doesn’t come with a warning label
Congratulations on your journey. For all who have just stared on this journey, take it one day at a time or one minute at a time. Ego is not your amigo. Your ego will & does keep you in fear-false evidance appearing real, so face everything & recover. Ive been clean & sober for 27 years. Stayin sober changes everything. Yes you feel everything deeper & it’s such a gift. I’m so grateful to have the YOUTUBES put your channel in my feed. I am now on HRT & walking most days. Next is to add the weight lifting which I LOVE. Thank you Chalene.
Great advice! Thanks friend
I have followed you for a while and was always surprised that you drank because you are seemingly perfectly healthy. You look better just from the last 30 days! Keep up the good work! Living AF is everything ❤
Thank you so much! It’s been a journey, and I truly appreciate your support. Living alcohol-free really does feel amazing! ❤
Great video Chalene! I am six months alcohol free. I feel so much better about myself especially in the mornings. I used to feel guilt about my drinking even though I wasn’t hungover. It’s so nice to wake up every morning feeling good!!! Thank you for your very honest perspective.
Congratulations! Waking up feeling amazing is one of the best motivators for me to keep going too!
Wow. Am so glad you are covering this topic. I’m in my 60s about to launch a longevity medical clinic in Hawaii. I too realized I had to walk the talk. Knowing what I know about geroscience and the effects of alcohol on health and aging, I too resolved to let alcohol go. It was almost impossible at first. But my Why—to be at my peak performance as a CEO — is more powerful than the siren call of a martini. What worked for me: Start one day, then add another day; and before you know it, feeling better becomes the Meta Why, giving you joy to the continue.
So my handle says California (I can’t figure out how to change it 😂) I actually live in Maui. I would love to know where your clinic is going to be located
Oh wow! Congratulations on launching your clinic and embracing such a powerful “Why.” I love how you’ve shifted focus to feeling better as motivation. You’re truly walking the talk, and it’s so inspiring!!
I stopped drinking alcohol about 1 month ago now. I had to get serious about reducing my inflammation. And I started getting symptoms of gout after I had 2 or more drinks in a night. Its nice to hear others are on the same track.
That’s a smart decision! I hope you’re noticing the positive changes already!
10 years sober here. Im 68 and feel amazing. Best thing I EVER did for myself. I lost 40 pounds started lifting weights…eating clean and look 10 years younger . Everything in my life got better.
OMG!! You are such an inspiration!
Two years and counting. Never had more clarity of mind. Intuition off the charts. I never have to use will power to stay away from alcohol because no substance beats this pure state of being.
Oh I love this so much! I couldn’t agree more! It hasn’t been a year yet I already feel so amazing!
So grateful that a woman with so much influence in the health and wellness space is being honest and speaking up about this subject. I can tell you that your life, emotional, mental and physical health will only get better year after year by staying on this path. 17 years after I quit and now at 68, I am so clear, so happy, so healthy – all my internal #’s and my external fitness and aesthetics are much younger than my chronological age. I look at other people who drink regularly, even much younger than me, and I see how alcohol is affecting and aging them. Congrats for having the self-awareness and courage to take this step. Smart woman more and more have moved away from alcohol. All the Best!
Thank you so much for your kind words and wisdom! It’s so inspiring to hear how vibrant and healthy you are after 17 years alcohol-free. Your story is a beautiful testament to the long-term benefits, and I’m so grateful for your support. All the best to you, too!
7 weeks alcohol free! Lost weight, no more guts disease, better sleep. I feel fantastic!
