Tyler Perry: Why “Fake It Till You Make It” Is Terrible Advice

Tyler Perry explains why fake success can cost you real opportunities, and why authenticity, preparation, and self-worth matter more than appearances.

In this conversation with Grant Cardone at the 10X Growth Conference, Tyler breaks down the illusion of success on social media, the young entrepreneur who lost a real investment opportunity by showing up in a rented Rolls-Royce, what he expects from a serious business pitch, and why he rejects “fake it till you make it.”

Tyler also shares how he went from homelessness to earning $130,000, then $700,000, then $7 million, while still ending each year unable to pay his taxes. The problem was not income. It was guilt, unworthiness, and a pattern of giving everything away before learning to help himself first.

  1. OMG GRANT! I am the female Tyler Perry! FINALLY 2 of my favs together! TYLER IS THE FIRST one (besides me) to say “They don’t have the capacity” God bless y’all! YOU ARE WORTH IT! I will have my private jet and travel the world empowering people like you are, Grant!! TYSM!

  2. That’s right. The last person you want to deceive is yourself. A lot of people are missing out on living a purposeful life because they’re used to lying to themselves.

    1. Jim Graves the accuser, the perfect, the sinless. The broke. The talker. The nobody. The one who hates on others trying to help others.

  3. I have $100K available to invest and I’m looking for good opportunities to grow my money. I’d appreciate advice from experienced investors on where to put my money to work and which opportunities are worth considering in the current market. What would you recommend based on your own experience?

    1. Getting a financial advisor at a brokerage will do, bc it means professional investment management, trading services, weekly reports, and no extra fees. Not for beginners alone-but it saves you from YouTubers nonsense and daily hopium.

    2. I’ve been following Kenneth Lee Grider insights on investing and wealth building, and I appreciate his thoughtful approach to evaluating opportunities and managing risk. For anyone looking to make more informed investment decisions, his perspectives may be worth exploring. As always, do your own research and make sure any investment aligns with your financial goals..

    3. You’re spot on. I actually made the switch to a momentum-heavy strategy a couple of years back after my self-managed portfolio started lagging. I was holding too many “stable” large caps that were essentially dead money. Kenneth helped me transition into a mix that included XMMO and some high-conviction growth plays. My account went from roughly $250k to over two million in less than two years just by staying on the right side of the trend

    4. I’d recommend Kenneth Lee Grider since he always gives market analysis and tips that are really helpful.

    5. Yeah, financial advisors could make a lot of difference, particularly in a market such as this. Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 950k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are a lot of transfer in this downtime if you know where to look. I have been using an FA since 2019, and I return at least $321k ROI, and this does not include capital gain.
