What about the 2020 debacle? More printing done than in the last 15 years in 1 year.
Single handedly moved the dollar storefrom 99 cents, to 1.25 dollars. Now its 1.5 dollars. To buy very cheap stuff. Sad state of affairs.
Nixon should have never taken us off the gold standard.
If Nixon did not take the US off gold standards, the US gold reserves would’ve been depleted until nothing was left. Which would’ve caused it’s own problems down the line
These things are too multifaceted to conclusively tell whether Nixon made the right decision or not, because imagine how your life would be today if the US still stuck with the Bretton wood system (the gold standard) with a massively depleted gold reserve.
Now, I’m not saying Nixon made the right call, but I’m not saying he made the wrong call either, the thing is we’ll never know, but one thing is certain, and that is the fact that the US citizens (especially the middle class) are definitely bearing the consequences of inflation, as well as most of the world. However, do have in mind that it could’ve been worse.
@ZaCharlemagneVery well said. Whether it was the right or wrong decision, we’ll never know. But I very much believe that the US needs to rein in their spending, start with domestic issues first and foremost. While figuring out how to increase our GDP and reduce our dependency on govt programs.
That’s where most Americans get lost. How to do what’s best for the US without immediately removing millions from the government test “overnight”.
Not to mention they lied about unemployment numbers.
